Ohi’a-Lehua (lay-who-ah) Honey is a very special honey in both flavor and texture. It also has its own Hawaiian lover’s legend! (See link at bottom of description) The bees collect the nectar from the fluffy, red flowers of our native Hawaiian Ohi’a tree forest adjacent to the apiary.
Lehua honey is in a class of its own with it’s thick, creamy, texture, it’s yellow white color and carmel complex taste. Also unique because Ohi’a trees only grow on our volcanic island, making it a real taste of the Hawaiian Islands, one you won’t find elsewhere. The essence of Hawaii in a jar!
This mono-floral honey has a higher percentage of glucose to fructose which is what causes the Lehua Honey to thicken within a very short time after bottled and to have a finer, smoother texture.
The Ohi'a grows throughout the Hawaiian Islands but is most abundant on the Big Island of Hawaii. It usually starts blooming in December and in a good year is still blooming in July giving us a nice long harvest period of this unique honey.
